Reflection

Share how you're planning to use reflection in developing your e-Portfolio content pagesShare your understanding of reflection. How is it different from description?

In developing my e-portfolio, I would try and reflect on the experience I have obtained in my field to convey an understanding of my skills I have learned through out school. I plan on discussing many of the projects I did throughout my college career. While discussing these assignments I will be reflecting on what I learned which will help to demonstrate my knowledge in all my areas of study. I will also try and reflect on the knowledge of my profession though many years of study of health sciences, commerce, and psychology so I am comfortable and confident when conversing with a potential future employer.

A description of yourself doesn’t always describe you in enough detail. It helps to reflect on and include past experiences, how you handled them and what was the outcome. Both clients and employers want to see real world experience and how you acted in past reflections.

I will use reflection in my research e-portfolio specifically in my personal statement. I will use the things that I have done and reflect on how they have changed my life and made me decide on what it is that I am doing after I finish at UCF.

I think that this is different from description because I am not describing what it is that I have done or am going to be doing I am going using the things that I have done and telling how they have helped me to find my passions and desires.

  1. A reflection is different than a description because when you reflect you apply what you learned and gained from something you did. It allows you to explain what exactly you gained and how you can apply what you have learned to future tasks. In developing my e-portfolio I will be able to reflect on how I accomplished crating different legal documents. I also will be able to reflect upon the skills I have gained from the experiences of putting the papers together. By reading my reflection on my e-portfolio a law firm looking to give me an internship will be able to see the document creating skills that I possess.

  2. My idea of reflection has to do with evaluating your own progress. Did you do your best to achieve the best scores you could? Did you learn the material in a way that you can explain it to others? Did you feel the classes you've finished have helped you to grow academically, or should you have chosen a different major? What will you take away from your experenince in these classes? All of these questions I ask myself when I finish a semester. But my true test of academic achievement will come when I put combine my experence at school to find a fullfilling career upon graduation.

  4. Abraham, I think the questions you gave were good examples of things to respond to when reflecting on your own progress. I think that integrating your questions with your artifacts in the e-portfolio will create a well balanced e-portfolio page.

  5. Chris. Thank you for your opinion of my post. I will definitly take heed on your idea about the questions. Best of luck with finding an intership. I hope the e-portfolio becomes a powerful aid in interview and introduction process that comes with it.

  6. In developing my e-portfolio content pages, I will show the audience, which in this case is Dental Schools, what I have done in the past few years to show why I am a good candidate for their school. I will describe the classes I have taken and what I have learned from those classes that will beneficial for me in the future. I will also describe my major and my area of studies to show how I am interdisciplinary and how this will also help me be successful in many ways. Along with school work, I will explain the externships I have done and describe why the time I have spent with doctors and dentists in their offices is priceless.
The goal is to not just have a description of who I am, but rather to show who I am through past experiences and scenarios.

  7. Abraham, I think it is good to create a portfolio that will address both your employers and graduate schools, however, I think it is better to focus on one or the other because they might want to see different things.

  8. Chris, I agree with you that reflection is more about showing examples of ones work or experiences rather than just giving a description of who you are. Like you said, having a paper or research that you have completed is important for someone who might want to offer you aa job or internship.

  9. David, I think when writing within your e-portfolio you might not only want to describe what you have accomplished but also reflect upon your experiences. You might also considering reflecting on what you have done so far and how it is helping you accomplish you future goals. I think by reflecting upon you experiences you will be able to achieve your goal of showing whoever is reading your e-portfolio how you have developed through the process of obtaining your own goals.

  10. Reflection is personal and unique. Anyone can describe a situation based on facts and insight, whereas reflection requires thought into new knowledge gained and the experience that you went through. In my ePortfolio, I plan to use reflection to describe how I learned to integrate my two fields in the best way possible for my chosen career. Reflection will require me to look back on my college career and recognize what was new that I didn't start out understanding. Hopefully in terms of the ePortfolio, this will mean understanding how to mesh business sense with personal interactions and social situations. Going into cosmetology requires both artistic and systematic thinking, normally two very different qualities, but instead they need to work side by side to be successful. In my ePortfolio I will demonstrate my greater understanding of this.

  11. David, although I think it is great to show your assets and potential contributions, you may want to focus on incorporating more reflection into your ePortfolio. While they are very similar, instead of just describing your experiences and why they're good, include what you personally got from them and what you have learned to incorporate into your life or work ethic.
