Discuss your personal philosophy concerning your professional life:
Is to be the a physicians assistant who believe that someone as small as me can evoke a change in our health care system, can show how important health care is and that it is a right to us all and nobody should have access to something like health care while others don’t. I hope to do this while practicing a more holistic form of medicine, by trying to get the root of problems not just prescribe drugs to prevent one problem while creating another. As well as while doing this put some responsibility on the patient by trying my best to get them involved in their treatment and have a trusting relationship with me knowing I just want to help and not judge.
How is or isn't this philosophy interdisciplinary?
I believe a dynamic health care provider cannot function with being interdisciplinary, seeing all aspects of life that create health problems, so I think it is interdisciplinary whether I were to see it that was or not.
How have your career goals altered?
My career goals have alter in that I chose to actually be someone who has medical knowledge but before I wanted to be a social worker and provide the same sort of philosophy.

I would have to say that my personal philosophy about my career goals begins with my ability to empathize with other people and how they respond to their environment. My philosophy is also deeply rooted in the origins of nature. Interdisciplinary in the fact that I can combine psychology, physical therapy and horticulture into a formula that enhances the curing of the mind, body and soul while healing the Earth as well through my ownership of a native plant nursery. My career goals have changed throughout college from my ability to become a more versatile, well-rounded individual and it’s through this integration that further allows me to achieve my long-term goals and personal aspirations.

My personal goal have changed throughout my college yrs do to new opportunities arising. My career goals have altered over the years due to new opportunities. I had no idea when I started college that I would aquire the skills to find many paths upon graduation. I can just as easily find a job working for an aircraft manufacteur as I could in paralegal or banking. So even though I'm not quit sure witch route I'm going to take, I don't consider it a bad thing. I think the deciding factor will be based on the ability to travel and see different places.
ReplyDeleteMy personal philosophy has changed through my years in college. I always knew I wanted to help people, but I wasn’t sure where. I first thought I wanted to be a doctor, then I thought I wanted to be a psychologist, and now I am on the path to becoming an attorney. My philosophy has changed in the way I would like to help people thus my career goals have as well. I want to become an attorney because I believe that our society relies heavily on the legal system, and I want to help people through their troubles with it. My philosophy isn’t interdisciplinary because I will be staying within the confines of the area of law that I will choose, and thus will not be crossing over into any other disciplines once I am an attorney.

Hey Chris. I completly understand view point on focusing on one consentration upon graduation. If I decide to find a job outside the military I'll be in the same boat. However, if I do become a commissioned officer I will be using all my disciplines; Public Affairs, Sociology, and Finance.
ReplyDeleteMy personal philosophy has changed several times throughout my past few years in college. I started out as a biology major quickly learning that biology was not the right major for me. After being interested in the prerequisite business courses I took during freshman year I switched my major to business and I was pretty content for the moment. After realizing the affects of the recession and noticing how stable a field in dentistry would be, I decided to change my major to interdisciplinary studies in order to go to dental school. This major enables me to integrate my business classes and biology courses to complete one major and make me a better-rounded person/professional.
ReplyDeleteDavid, I think you made the right choice. Dentistry does seem to be a stable job currently. That was part of the reason I switched my major as well. There just wasn't alot of jobs being a psychologist like I had thought there would be.

Abraham, sounds like the military would be the best option for you to use your interdisciplinary degree. I also think it is rough in todays world to be interdisciplinary because many jobs are mostly orientated towards one or two disciplines.
ReplyDeleteMy classes here at UCF have changed my personal philosophy to some degree as well. I had the mindsets that lawyers help people, but my law professors seem to be more focused on the end product, which is money involved. In a way this philosophy has changed my personal philosophy to some extent, but I still want to help others.

Hi David. It is good to hear that you were able to bounce back so late in your college yrs to mesh everything into one goal. I can definitly see how business and biology can be great fondations to build your dentistry career on. It sounds like there is a lot that you can gain from this class.
ReplyDeleteI think that my personal philosophy for my career is that I need to have fun with what I do so that I am always excited to work. I know that with my chosen career in the beauty industry, there will always be changing styles and concepts to keep my interest which will also push me to find inspiration and satisfaction through my career. By working in such a diverse field, I feel that my interdisciplinarity will show through my ability not only to socially interact with people, but how I will incorporate those interactions in a business sense as well. Over the past couple of years in college I have taken a major leap in change of career from pre-med to cosmetology which is much more interesting me and I feel that the great interest will help me to be more successful.
ReplyDeleteChris, I completely understand what you're saying about wanting to help people, and I also have changed career choices with that in mind. First I wanted to be a doctor like you, and now I'm going into cosmetology. Talk about a big change! But its an entirely new and exciting venture for me; something that I didn't think I would get out of the medical field. I can still help people, just not physically, and to be perfectly honest, I think I will feel more appreciated by helping people's confidence in their appearance and boosting self esteem, than I would have been for obligational medical attention.
ReplyDeleteAbraham, I was reading some of your posts and I realized that you have a good point about a concentration focus. Like you said, going into the military will allow you to employ multiple disciplines and skills which is great. The majority of careers however are not so integrated and its a shame. We should be able to have more options and not have limited employers, but thats not usually the case. Its going to be difficult to try to get future employers to look at things from an interdisciplinary perspective because most jobs are so focused on one track.
ReplyDeleteAbraham,
ReplyDeleteI think it’s great that you are preparing yourself for several future job opportunities. Especially with the way the economy is today I think it is crucial to have a backup plan and I think you are taking the right steps in being prepared for whichever steps you might need to take in the future.
Chris, I agree with you that people focus too much on money and sometimes aren’t concerned in doing a good job or the right thing. I think it is important to keep both things in context and try your best to help people while still making money and supporting yourself or your family so you can have a good living.
