Integration is the combination of things and in this case integration would be the combination of all areas of study in my IDS degree and how I will use them. But other examples would be something like while you are working out doing weight training and cardio together. So like jogging while holding 2 pound weights.
I think my areas of study are integrated fairly well, especially the biomedical sciences and health sciences. With the biomedical sciences you are learning the mechanisms and functions of the human body and the real meat of giving health care and then with the health science you learn more about policies and how health care facilities and providers do their job. The behavioral and social sciences is useful and integrates well but I think this is more useful for anyone with any area of study because we all deal with people on a daily basis and a better understanding of people helps us all. And I feel by going to PA school I will be integrating my areas very well.
Having integration is important because if you were not integrating your areas for at least your own personal development then the whole purpose and beauty behind a IDS degree is being missed, and as far as professional and academics I think if you academically excel in your areas and allow yourself to get the most out of them then you will excel in explaining why this has all made you better for you professional career and it will just show.

Interdisciplinary is the study and integration of multiple disciplines. Examples of integration could be the combination of trade skills with the knowledge of business. These are two areas that may contribute to the success of a person in a multi-disciplinary field like most jobs today. I’ve been able to apply interdisciplinary integration into my chosen field of physical therapy. A major in health sciences educates me on how the body works and the business aspects of the health field. My minor in psychology helps me to combine mind and body to become better in the practice of physical therapy, hopefully being able to know how to truly help a patient heal and recover.
I believe this will lead to a well rounded integration of study and social skills. I could better integrate all these areas by continuing to immerse myself with the wealth of knowledge and real world experience through my internship which will hopefully be an important stepping stone in my career path.

Hi Jessica. I like your opinion of how basically you get out of IDS what you put in to it. I like many others however are just here to graduate. But as I get further into this course I see how it is a great degree program, and I'm looking foward to learn how my particular combo can work best to my advantage post-graduation.
ReplyDeleteI have integrated my areas in way to create what I believe to be a good knowledge base to have when going to law school. I believe that I will use the knowledge from all three of my minors (Legal studies, business, Psychology) both while in law school and after law school. Although my areas are not similar they integrate together because a law firm requires you to have business skills, personal skills (psychology) and legal knowledge as well. I believe I can better integrate my areas by exploring them more and finding connections through my studies by purposefully looking for connections.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good way to look at things Chris espeically depending on what type of law you would like to pratice.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more Abraham on you get what you put into this course. I too am learning how I can better integrate the areas I have chosen to tailor them to my career goal and post graduation.
ReplyDeleteJanelle, I agree with you on the fact that real world experience is an important stepping stone. I am also starting an internship soon with a law firm and am hoping to gain a lot of real world experience in my areas of study.
ReplyDeleteInterdisciplinary is a perfect example of integration, which is combining several areas of study. To this point I haven’t integrated my areas of study in any way. My major areas of study are commerce and biological sciences. I am taking science classes in order to go to dental school and the business classes I feel will give me a better understanding of the business market in the world and information on how to manage my money. It is important to be able to integrate areas of study in an academic way because most tests and classes have more than one aspect to them in which integrating several areas will be beneficial.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I will integrate my areas of study to not only be a more well-rounded person but to be a more successful professional and businessman. My goal is to be a dentist some day but it is well known fact that dentists and doctors make very poor business decisions with their money. Therefore, this will help me have an advantage over other doctors from a competitive stand point and personally to have better success managing my money.
Chris,
ReplyDeleteI think your major and minor areas of study integrate really well and will help you be a very successful law student and hopefully a good lawyer. Being a lawyer with the knowledge and background in all the areas you are studying can be a very powerful tool in the long run.
